"I recently did your General Health Screen and the Diabetes Test showed that I have high blood sugar and potential diabetes. I did suspect this as I have had many of the symptoms. I ended up calling 111 and being sent to A&E. I have now been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Without your tests and advice, I dread to think what may have happened. The process of the test itself and the customer service afterwards has been fantastic. I’m so glad this service was available and enabled me to support my instincts and get the treatment I needed."
Our tests fordiabetesandtotal cholesterolwill help give you a better understanding of your cardiovascular risk and what steps could be taken to help lower your risk.
Health conditions that affect our heart and blood vessels are known as cardiovascular disease. These conditions can lead to serious problems including angina (chest pain), heart attack, stroke and vascular dementia.
There are a range of factors that can affect our risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Two of the major risk factors are the amount of cholesterol and sugar (glucose) in our blood.
High levels of cholesterol can cause narrowing of blood vessels, increasing our risk of cardiovascular disease. High blood sugar (glucose) can indicate that you may have diabetes or be at high risk of diabetes. The high sugar levels cause damage to blood vessels and this can make cardiovascular disease more likely to occur.
Importantly, it is possible to lower the amount of cholesterol and sugar in our blood, and this can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Please note: these tests are available for people aged over 18 only. Please collect and post your sample to us Monday-Thursday, to avoid delays over the weekend. In a small number of cases, it may not always be possible to provide a result, please see ourterms and conditionsfor details.
